As protests in Bihar continue, police use lathicharge

In certain districts of Bihar, student protests about issues with competitive exams descended into violence. For the second day in a running, police employed lathicharge and water cannons to subdue demonstrators.
The manner the protests have been handled has drawn criticism from both the NDA administration and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Protesters have been urged by the BJP and its ally Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), to maintain their composure and refrain from using derogatory language.

Demonstrations in Begusarai, Darbhanga, and Katihar

There were thousands of demonstrators in Begusarai, Darbhanga, and Katihar. They were demonstrating against claimed injustices and issues with competitive tests.
The protests turned violent in some areas. While police in Begusarai used a light lathicharge to drive demonstrators away, stones were hurled in Katihar.
The demonstrations took place the day after police in Patna deployed lathicharge and water cannons during a march from Gandhi Maidan to Raj Bhavan.

Begusarai Police Use Lathicharge

Protesters gathered close to the district collectorate in Begusarai. To get them out of the area and handle the situation, police performed a light lathicharge.

An officer was hurt during the protest in Katihar.

In Katihar, hundreds of students gathered close to the collectorate's entrance.
When some demonstrators began hurling stones, the atmosphere grew tense. During the event, a Circle Officer (CO) who was on duty sustained injuries.
The throng was then subdued by police using a baton charge. Videos from the demonstration showed a number of demonstrators fleeing as the cops arrived.

Injuries to Police Officers in Darbhanga

There have also been reports of violence in Darbhanga, where baton charges and stone throwing have occurred.
A number of police officers were hurt, according to officials. To keep the situation under control, more police officers were later dispatched to the area.
The situation has been brought under control, according to Darbhanga District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar. He claimed that four or five persons had been arrested.
In order to identify those responsible for the violence, officials are also reviewing CCTV and video evidence.

RJD and Congress Criticize the Government

The Central administration was criticized by the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for how it handled the protests.

According to opposition leaders, students' anger was growing as a result of recurring reports of paper leaks and issues with competitive exams.

Student protests have a long history in Bihar. In 1974, the state was a major player in the student-led Bihar Movement, sometimes called the JP Movement.

According to Subodh Kumar Mehta, national spokesperson for RJD, students have grown irritated due to recurring exam-related issues. Additionally, he said that students in Bihar were being impacted by protests taking place in Delhi and other parts of the nation.
He claimed that there was growing resentment at the Centre against the NDA government.

The BJP is accused by the Bihar Congress of diverting attention.

He also questioned why, after an incident involving the Congress office, police allegedly took a day to file a formal complaint against BJP employees.
According to Tiwari, the Congress leadership backed the students' demands.

JD(U) Requests Students to Maintain Calm

Neeraj Kumar, a spokesperson for JD(U), urged students to maintain composure and patience.
He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pledged to take decisive action against those involved in the NEET-UG paper leak scandal.
Kumar cautioned that troublemakers should not be let to exploit the protests and urged students to exercise moderation.
